The Incredible Shrinking Website & The Fast Growing Substack

You may have noticed that this website is getting smaller.

That’s intentional.

I’ve been gradually moving my writing over to Substack, one revamped article at a time. When I started, I thought this would simply be a matter of moving articles from one place to another.

It hasn’t quite worked out that way.

I’ve been writing online for a very long time, so I’m coming across things I wrote ten, fifteen, even twenty years ago. Sometimes I read something and think, “Yes, I still believe that.” Sometimes I realise I would say it very differently today. And occasionally I think, “I still agree with the point I was trying to make, but I totally disagree with the way I went about making it!”

There’s something rather freeing about being able to do that. Published authors don’t normally get to wander back through old books with an eraser. But with an old website archive, I can decide what I want to carry forward, what deserves some work, and what can simply stay behind.

So this has become much more than moving my writing to a new address. On Substack, you’ll find revamped pieces from my archives alongside new writing, with more opportunity for conversation around what I share.

And yes, it’s free to join Substack. You can read without subscribing, or subscribe for free and have new articles delivered directly to your inbox.

Meanwhile, this will continue to be the incredible shrinking website until the move is complete.

I’d love to have you come along with me.

Kath
