Is God safe?
Is God good? Yes!
Is He forgiving, gracious, holy, wise and infinite? Yes!
Is He sovereign, all-knowing and all-powerful? Yes!
Is He loving? Yes!
Is God safe?
Well, that depends on your definition of the word safe.
God promises to be our Strong Tower, our Protector, our Champion and our Advocate. He also promises that if we call Him friend, we will see persecution; we will suffer, and we will go through the fires of sanctification. He promises to shake us out of our complacency.
There is no safer place to be than in His presence, but He is not the God of the complacent. Following Him will require you to leave your comfort zone, but a grand adventure awaits all who follow His call.
C.S. Lewis perfectly highlights the difference between a safe God and a good God in his classic, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Speaking of Aslan, who represents Christ in his allegory, Lewis describes him as this. “Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”
So, is God safe? No. But He is the Lion of Judah who has triumphed. He beckons you to come.
