God’s Promise to Joshua
Remember God’s words to Joshua in Joshua 1:9: “The Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
I’m reading this from The Message today. Sometimes we need wording that feels fresh so we don’t tune it out.
“Haven’t I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don’t be timid; don’t be discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take.”
A Leader Facing the Impossible
God said this straight to Joshua.
Joshua had just taken over leadership after Moses, with thousands of Israelites looking to him. They were standing at the edge of the Jordan River, ready to cross into the promised land.
Moses was gone. Joshua was chosen as his successor, stamped with God’s approval. But now the pressure was on. He had to get everyone across and plan for the battles ahead.
God’s Assurance
In that moment, God leaned in.
He reminded Joshua: Be strong. Be courageous.
Do not be timid. Do not be discouraged.
I am with you every step you take.
God was saying, “I will do my part. I will keep My promise.”
Your Jordan River
Maybe today you feel on the wrong side of your Jordan River. You see a gap between where you are and God’s promises. It touches your family, your church, your business, or your assignment.
Go back to Joshua 1:1–9.
Reread verse 9 until it settles deep.
Say it out loud when doubt tries to speak louder than truth. Keep it where you can see it. In your journal. On a note beside your bed. On your mirror. Let those words be an automatic response when fear tries to creep in.
“Do not be timid. Do not get discouraged.” “God, your God, is with you every step you take.”
That word was true for Joshua, and it is true for you. God will fulfil His covenant. He will be with you as you step into the unknown.
