Sleep in Peace: Trusting God’s Strength and Protection at Night

Stress and anxiety often hit hardest at night. That’s when thoughts race and worries seem louder. But what if there’s a different perspective—one that can break the cycle?

Proverbs 19:23 says, “The fear of the Lord leads to life, so that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil.” That kind of rest doesn’t come from pretending our fears don’t exist. It comes from shifting our focus.

Let’s begin by talking about what the fear of the Lord is not.

It’s not the kind of fear that grips you in a nightmare where something dark is chasing you. It’s not walking on eggshells with God, afraid that one mistake will earn His rejection. That isn’t His nature.

Instead, the fear of the Lord is reverence. It’s standing in awe of who He is. Many translations describe it as deep respect or holy wonder. Yes, He is our Father. Jesus is our Saviour and closest friend. The Holy Spirit is our comforter and constant guide. But they are also infinite, holy, and powerful beyond measure.

If you find it hard to sleep, if anxiety grips you in the night hours, turn to Psalm 121:3–4: “He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

God doesn’t doze off. He never looks away.

The same God who knows all things and holds all power can protect and watch over you with ease. While you rest, He remains wide awake. Nothing escapes His attention. When you meditate on how vast and mighty He is, peace begins to rise. Your Heavenly Father knows your needs. God understands your regrets, your burdens, and your fears. And He is more than able.

The fear of the Lord isn’t meant to push you away. It draws you into wonder. Into safety and rest. When you live from that place of holy awe, you begin to trust that God really is holding it all together—including you. And that’s where true rest begins.

Until next time,
