In Case You Were Wondering: What Sort of Christian Are You, Kath?
Here’s a bit more about my journey. From my earliest years as a Christian right up to today, I’ve received wisdom and spiritual nourishment from many different Christian streams and denominations.
I believe I was first introduced to the Lord when I was ten by two Baptist ladies who held a Sunday School class during a hospital stay. I never saw those women again, but I’m still deeply grateful for their influence. Looking back now, I can see the fruit of the seeds they planted so many years ago.
I deepened my walk with Christ and committed my life to Him during my final years of high school while attending a Catholic school. Later, I spent several years at a Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada church before joining Youth With A Mission.
During my fourteen years in missions, I worshipped and fellowshipped in local churches around the world, learning from believers in Baptist, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Anglican, and non-denominational settings. I’ve worshipped while sitting on bamboo mats in refugee camps, and I’ve worshipped while sitting on plush padded pews in megachurches.
I appreciate the richness of the wider Body of Christ, and I also hold firmly to the foundational truths of the Christian faith. I believe salvation is found only through faith in Jesus Christ. I believe in His virgin birth, His full deity and humanity, His sinless life, His atoning death on the cross for our sins, and His bodily resurrection.
Through His sacrifice, my relationship with God has been restored. I worship the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
People sometimes ask what kind of Christian I am. The truth is, I don’t fit neatly into one denominational box. My roots and influences are broad, but my heart is firmly anchored in Jesus Christ and His Word.
I’m not a Cessationist. I respect believers and teachers who hold that view, but I believe the Holy Spirit continues to work powerfully in the world today. I’m a Spirit-filled Christian who believes the gifts of the Spirit did not cease with the early Church.
I believe God still speaks to and through His people. I believe the prophetic voice remains an important gift to the Church when exercised humbly, biblically, and in submission to Christ and the Church.
I also believe Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. I believe God still heals today. I’ve witnessed healing, experienced His miraculous intervention personally, and seen His power at work in ways that cannot be explained by human effort alone.
God is still speaking, still healing, still saving, and still revealing His love and glory to the world.
