When Worry Visits at Night
Stress and anxiety often show up at night. Thoughts spin, and sleep feels far away. I’ve been there. Most of us have. Even as believers, we sometimes struggle to find peace when the world seems to be falling apart.
But there’s a better way. God offers us another perspective.
A Promise You Can Hold
“The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.” (Proverbs 19:23, NIV)
This verse points us toward rest. It’s a promise worth holding onto when our minds won’t quiet down.
What the Fear of the Lord Is Not
It isn’t the kind of fear you feel in a night terror. It isn’t living under the idea that God is waiting to punish you the moment you slip up. That’s not His heart.
What the Fear of the Lord Is
It’s reverence. Awe. Respect.
Yes, God is our Father. Jesus is our brother and advocate. The Holy Spirit is our comforter. But they are also holy, infinite, powerful, and present everywhere at once. That truth changes how we see our worries.
Why This Brings Rest
Psalm 121 reminds us that God is always present and never sleeps. He watches over us day and night. When we lean into that truth, our anxiety loses ground. His presence brings calm.
Try This Tonight
If you’re tossing and turning, slow down. Breathe deep as you pray this simple prayer: “God, You are near. You are strong. You are good.”
Picture yourself resting in His arms. Hand Him each worry as it rises. Trust that He is big enough and kind enough to carry it all.
Scripture to Revisit
Proverbs 19:23 (NIV): “The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.”
Psalm 121:3–4 (NIV): “He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.”
Lean In
Tonight, let your awe of God’s greatness outweigh your anxiety. He never sleeps. He is watching over you. You are safe in His care.
Rest well.
