Katherine Walden – Personal Statement of Faith

Katherine Walden’s Personal Statement of Faith in Christ Jesus

There is nothing I can do to earn God’s love. It is a gift.

That gift was paid in full through the death and bodily resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus was God’s walking example of agape love on the earth.

I believe this gift is available to every man, woman, and child. But I also believe that each person must personally ask for it. That means surrendering their life to God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

This surrender must be unconditional. I believe it happens by inviting Jesus Christ to be Lord in every area of life—body, soul (mind, emotions, and will), and spirit.

On February 12, 1974, I received the gift of salvation.

That day, I decided to follow the example Jesus set before me.

To follow Him well, I must study His Word, pray, and connect regularly with other believers. This happens both inside and outside the walls of a church.

My faith in Christ is the foundation of my life. Every decision I make is filtered through that lens. In other words, “What would Jesus do?”

I keep short accounts with both God and others. I repent when I sin, and when I hurt someone—through my actions, inaction, or thoughts—I make it right.

While I believe you can live out your faith outside of a church building, I also believe face-to-face fellowship matters deeply. It’s hard to walk in full accountability, encouragement, and support without it.

Being part of a community where you’re known, challenged, and loved is vital for spiritual health and balance. Through the strength and encouragement I receive from my church, I can express my faith worldwide—through this web ministry and other ways God provides.

Over the years, I’ve attended many different churches—from Catholic to Presbyterian, from Baptist to Pentecostal.

I was a missionary for several years, and then I was part of a local Vineyard church for 25 years. Later, I attended a non-denominational church in my city. Ongoing disability eventually made it harder to participate in person, and I am now a pioneer in a vibrant global online community under the umbrella of Bethel Church, Redding.

Even so, I remain deeply connected to the Body of Christ.

I am unabashedly and unapologetically Spirit-filled. I believe that healing—both physical and spiritual—is for today. I believe God speaks to His people through His eternal word, the Bible,  and prophecy.

I believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit, as seen in the Gospels and the Book of Acts, are still active and needed. It’s only right to fully use everything Jesus paid for through His death and resurrection.

Formal Statement of Faith

I believe that God is the Eternal King. He is infinite and unchanging—perfect in holiness, wisdom, goodness, justice, power, and love. He has always existed as the one true God in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—equal in power and glory, united in essence.

I believe God’s kingdom has no end. From His throne, God created everything through His Son, the eternal Word. He continues to sustain and rule over all things—the heavens, angelic beings, the universe, the earth, all living creatures, and humankind. Everything He made was good.

I believe Satan was once a great and good angel who chose to rebel against God. He led other angels into rebellion and was cast out of God’s presence. He now works against God’s rule, establishing a kingdom of darkness and evil on the earth.

I believe God made people—male and female—in His image for relationship with Him and to care for the earth. But when Satan tempted them, the first humans fell into sin. That fall brought sin, sickness, and death into the world. Because of their choice, Satan and his demonic forces gained influence over God’s good creation. Now, all of creation is affected by that first sin. Every person is born into sin, subject to death, and under the power of darkness—until God sets them free.

Now, all of creation is affected by that first sin. Every person is born into sin, subject to death, and under the power of darkness—until God sets them free.

I believe God never abandoned His rule over the earth. He still holds everything together through His power. To bring redemption, God made covenants with people, showing His grace to a sinful world. In His covenant with Abraham, He promised to deliver His people from sin and to bless every nation through them.

I believe that God acted as King when He rescued Israel from slavery in Egypt. Through Moses, He gave the law to reveal His perfect will and to show us our need for a Savior. The law helps guide humanity and makes us aware of our responsibility and sin. By the Holy Spirit, we are convicted and led to Jesus for salvation.

I believe God fulfilled His promises to Israel by sending His Son, Jesus. Conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, Jesus is fully God and fully human. He is the example of how humanity was meant to be. Anointed as the Messiah, He began God’s kingdom work—preaching good news, healing the sick, casting out demons, and raising the dead. He formed His Church to continue that work. Jesus died for the sins of the world and rose on the third day, fulfilling God’s covenant with Abraham. Through His perfect life and death, Jesus satisfied the law and took on the judgment we deserved. He also broke the power of the enemy. As the promised King from David’s line, Jesus now rules from heaven and continues to advance God’s kingdom.

I believe the Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost, bringing power to the Church. The Spirit baptizes believers into the Body of Christ and gives spiritual gifts. The Spirit lives in us, helping us worship, grow in holiness, serve others, and share the gospel with power.

I believe the Holy Spirit lives in every believer and is our constant Helper, Teacher, and Guide. I believe in being filled and empowered by the Spirit, often in a personal and noticeable way. I believe the Holy Spirit still works today through all the gifts mentioned in the Bible. I take part in practices like laying on of hands for healing, empowerment, and leadership.

I believe the Bible is God’s Word, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original writings. I trust the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments as my final and absolute authority for faith and life.

I believe the whole world is under the influence of Satan and that every person has sinned. Because of this, all people face God’s just judgment. But through the gospel of Jesus and the work of the Holy Spirit, those who repent and trust Jesus as Lord are made new. They are forgiven, adopted into God’s family, and brought out of darkness into His kingdom.

I believe in the one, holy, global Church. Everyone who turns from sin and declares Jesus as Lord is part of Christ’s Body, with Him as the Head.

I believe Jesus gave the Church two main practices: water baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These are available to all believers.

I believe God’s kingdom began with Jesus’ ministry, continues today through the Church by the Spirit, and will one day be completed when Jesus returns. He will come again in power, defeat all evil, raise the dead, judge all people, and bring eternal joy to the righteous and eternal judgment to the wicked. In the new heavens and new earth, God will be thoroughly worshipped forever, and His perfect rule will never end.

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God
the Father Almighty.
From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen
