Since the invention of smart TVs and ad-free subscriptions, I rarely watch commercials. But one commercial I didn’t mind watching stands out.
The commercial claimed their cleaning cloths attracted dirt like a magnet attracts metal. Actors dressed as dust bunnies leapt joyfully into the fabric. I felt the familiar nudge of the Spirit. I thought of the cleansing power of Jesus’ blood.
The Cleansing Power of the Blood of Jesus
When we repent, even in filthy clothes, He clothes us in righteousness. Our scarlet sins are made white as snow. His blood doesn’t just attract our filth—it erases it (Isaiah 1:18).
Too often, God’s people think they must first clean themselves before approaching Him.
The Parable of the Wedding Feast
This led me to the parable of the Wedding Feast (Matt. 22:1-14). I always wondered why the king rebuked one wedding guest. Didn’t the king know the man had no fine clothes? Didn’t he realize the man had received a last-minute invitation after many had rejected it? Why cast him out?
On reflection, I saw something new. The king singled out “one man” in a crowd of latecomers. Why didn’t he cast them all out? Maybe the other guests wore suitable clothes. Where did they find them? Perhaps they were given their wedding appropriate clothes by the King.
Accepting the King’s Gift
Maybe the man refused the gift, thinking his clothes were fine (Isaiah 64:6). Perhaps he felt unworthy or too proud to accept the king’s offer. Whatever the reason, his refusal cost him dearly.
None of us deserves to stand before the King. Yet, by His mercy, He calls us to Himself (John 6:65, Titus 3:5).
If you feel like the inappropriately dressed guest, let the Lord clothe you in His righteousness. He invites us as His bride.
Isaiah 61:10
“I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”
Until next time,
